When spare parts are no longer available

When working with the repair of older sewing machines, there is naturally a need for parts that are no longer produced. The frustration is often great when there is only one "small" part – most often made of plastic – that is missing or broken, and this alone prevents the machine from working again.

So what was the solution?

From idea to working part

3D printing was available, but the question was whether the quality would be good enough for use in sewing machines. To find the answer, we invested in our own 3D printer, and a thorough process of trial, error, and testing began.

Through this work, we quickly saw a pattern: Many of the parts that fail do so in the same way. This opened up for more than just copying – it made it possible to improve the design.

Using 3D modeling in Fusion and extensive long-term testing, the results proved to be very good. In several cases, the new parts were better than the original, both in strength and function.

From workshop to webshop

These were parts we could confidently use in our own repairs – and just as confidently offer to other repair technicians. This is how 3dsewingparts.com came to be.

Today we offer:

• Over 50 different 3D-printed spare parts
• 10-year warranty on the parts we produce
• Sales to 24 countries (as of 14.02.2026)

All our 3D-printed parts are designed, produced, and quality-assured by us, in our own facilities. This gives us full control over material selection, tolerances, and quality – and ensures that the parts meet the standard we expect in professional repair work.

When new electronics are the best solution

The need for new electronics also gradually emerged. Towards the end of the 1990s, "newer" electronics began to use very small SMD components, which in practice can be difficult or impractical to repair in a durable way. In such cases, new electronic boards are often the best solution.

Based on experience from troubleshooting and repair, we have therefore developed replacement boards that replace original control boards. One of our boards can replace two different original boards, where the correct type is easily selected via a small switch on the board.

This provides:

• fewer variants to deal with
• simpler inventory management
• a reliable and future-proof solution

Several new boards are under development, based on the same principle: available components, improved reliability, and long lifespan.
